☐ Pack the last of your toiletries, medicines, perishable foods as you wait for your movers to come! On time as arranged.
☐ Try and relax, the hard work is almost done! Reminisce. Have a family night in. Finish any food you don't want to pack! Say goodbyes to friends, neighours co-workers.
☐ If renting, contact landlord to see if they want a final walk through. Arrange to get your security deposit back.
☐ Organize your packed boxes and decide what you'll be transporting yourself. Consider packing a suitcase for the day(s) of travel/transition.

☐ Put any items you want to keep safe into a safety deposit box, or store at a family members home.
☐ Make a kids kit. Kid kits include any toys, medication, or items that may be needed. You want to be able to pack the rest of the house during this 2 week time. The more you do now, the less you will have to do in the days before.
☐ Start packing the kitchen. Small appliances, excess dishes, pantry items you wont be using.
☐ Start packing the rest of the bedrooms. Empty drawers of side tables, closets (except for clothes you'll need) extra linens.
☐ Start packing the bathrooms. Only keep toiletries you'll be using in the next 2 weeks.
☐ Take inventory of your fridge/cupboards. Can you make enough meals with what is left? the more you use up in the next 2 weeks, the less you'll have to move! Plan your last 2 weeks of meals to make this transition easy and with as little waste as possible.
☐ Start packing. Start with things and rooms you use infrequently. You can even designate one room as the "ready to go room". Any full boxes, that will have items you won't need can be stored and labelled. Below are examples of things you may not need right away:
- Seasonal decorations
- Off-season clothing
- Boxes already in storage
- Family photo albums/keepsakes
- Kids toys (TIP: have them choose just a few to keep out for the next few weeks - pack the rest!)
- DVD's, CD's, Books
- Garage/shed (out of season sports equipment)
- Home decor; vases, knick knacks, wall art
☐ Stay organized. Consider packing jewelry, valuables, important documents (medical, school), in separate boxes.
☐ Notify agencies of your move. First make a list. Go through your wallet and every card inside to start. You'll likely have to contact every company if you have a card with them. Here is a list of companies you may need to contact
- Utilities
- Driver License
- Passport
- Phone (and cell phones)
- Internet provider
- Satellite or cable
- Bank
- Credit cards
- Insurance companies
- Doctors
- Subscription services (magazines, air miles etc.)

If you have a home-based business, you'll need to do this for your own company as well.
☐ Arrange for time off. Speak with your employer to ensure you have the days off that you need.
☐ Acquire supplies. Boxes. Packing Tape. Markers. Contact us! We can help you with that.
☐ Make travel arrangements. Will you need to stay with family temporarily, book a hotel, arrange air fare... Don't forget about your fur babies travel arrangments too!
☐ Will you be in a new city? Neighborhood? Start checking and contacting the schools for children, doctors, find a new gym, clubs, etc. Give notice to your current clubs/memberships. A lot of places let you transfer to a local facility.
☐ Declutter. Consider having a garage sale. Sort your belongings into keep, toss and donate. BONUS: You can use any money you make to help pay for moving expenses.
☐ Make any home repairs, paint, freshen up the home as contracted.
